Soy Sauce-scented Tofu Recipe

Soy Sauce-scented Tofu Recipe:
A tasty tofu recipe for you if you want big flavors on a small budget. Soy sauce-scented tofu recipe is easy to learn and only takes seconds to do.
 
Prep time: 5 minutes
Total time: 20 minutes
 
Utensils:
Wok, kitchen paper, plate.
 
Serves 2 as a main meal.
 
Ingredients:
1 block (about 5 oz./ 150g) firm tofu
1 tbsp.sugar
1/3 cup water
1 tbsp.light soy sauce
5 tbsps.vegetable oil for deep-frying
Directions:

1. Cut the tofu into rectangles, roughly 1/2-inch width, 1-inch long (P1), then drain them well, please refer to tips below.

2. Heat 5 tbsps.vegetable oil in a wok over medium heat, when it is shimmering on the bottom, but not yet smoking, add tofu cubes and deep fry until golden-brown (P2).

3. Remove the tofu to another wok over medium heat, stir into the sugar, light soy sauce and 1/3 cup water, keep on a steady simmer over low heat (P3).

4. When the liquid is reduced, serve on a plate (P4).

Tips:

How to drain tofu before using:

1. Lay a kitchen paper out on a big serving plate, arrange tofu cubes on it neatly, then cover another kitchen paper on them.

2. At last, put a book or any other heavy things on it, let sit for 20 minutes.

3. During this period, you may find that water leeks out of tofu, no worries, just drain it by tiltting the plate if needed.
